Staying Safe: Beat The Heat!

Staying out of the heat (for the most part) this summer can be the easiest way to stay safe -- especially when that AC dial is cranked down low! But most of us on Long Island want to enjoy what our county has to offer, and that usually includes the beach, lots of sunlight, parks, and our own backyards! So in the spirit of summer and staying cool, we’ve got a few ways to beat the damage from heat, while enjoying it as best you can, safely!

Don’t Forget Water!

While the summer of alcohol-infused seltzer drinks are upon us, it’s important to not forget about that other clear liquid in the cooler -- water! Staying hydrated while doing almost anything is an imperative part to a healthy and safe summer. Be sure to consumer at the very least, one half-gallon of water per day in order to keep yourself functioning properly. 

Watch Out For Dry Patches

It’s important to note that even though you’re not lighting a fire near plants and shrubbery, that they can’t ignite with the right conditions. Make sure you’re planning on watering your plants and greens at LEAST once per day, when there isn’t direct sunlight overhead. This prevents the risk of them drying out, and becoming an accomplice to a rather harmless fire that spiraled out of control.

Monitor Your Humidity

Checking your humidity levels is just as important as anything else, since that can lead to costly repairs, extensive damage, and other issues if not treated! The best way to battle humidity indoors is to invest in a quality dehumidifier and eliminate unwanted moisture in the air. Additionally, make sure you’re staying cool outdoors and out of humidity as much as possible! The thick air can make it harder to breathe, and can cause uncomfortable situations under your clothing!
